Streamlined extensions of time available in Australia due to COVID-19 disruptions

IP Australia has introduced a new streamlined process for extension of time requests to assist applicants who have been impacted by COVID-19.

Up until at least 31 May 2020, applicants who have been impacted by COVID-19 can obtain an extension of time of up to three months free of charge. For eligible requests, IP Australia will waive or refund the normal official extension of time fees.

The streamlined extension applies to most deadlines associated with Australian Patent, Design and Trade Mark rights. Notably, the streamlined extension does not apply to payment of renewal/maintenance fees, although the six month grace period is available.

Laminar IP is continuing to provide uninterrupted Patent, Design and Trade mark services to all our clients during this time. If you have any questions or require any assistance in seeking extensions, please contact us.
