New Zealand fee changes

Changes to patent and trade mark fees in New Zealand came into effect on 13 February 2020.

As discussed in our previous article, the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand increased many of its patent fees and introduced new “excess claims fees”. On the other hand, some trade mark fees have decreased.

Patent fee changes

Key changes in patent fees include:

  • Increased examination fees
  • Introduction of excess claim fees
  • Increased renewal fees

Trade mark fee changes

Key changes in trade mark fees include:

  • Decreased application fees
  • Decreased renewal fees
