Lester worked in locomotive design and steelmaking before entering the IP profession. His technical field ranges from engineering, product development and software. He has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in underwater turbines, carbon remote power storage systems, modular solar power, PAPRs, surfboards, fins, motorcycles, consumer products, O2O commerce, and banking transaction systems, amongst others.
He has now been a registered Trans-Tasman Patent and Trade Mark Attorney for more than 20 years. Lester handles all aspects of front-end IP protection for clients in Australia, New Zealand and overseas relating to patents, designs and trade marks.
Lester serves on the Public Consultation Projects team of the INTA Designs Committee, which assists governments in developing harmonised and efficient design legislation. He has served as a juror for the Australian Good Design Awards and remains an ambassador there.
Lester also enjoys writing and editing, spending a few years on the editorial board of the Australian Intellectual Property Journal, and founded and enjoyed editing an international law firm IP blog.
